The Front Porch
Come on in!
I'm so glad you stopped by this month. Grab a glass of sweet tea (or in my case, an iced tea with monk fruit sweetener), get comfortable, and let's spend a few minutes together. Each month, I love sharing practical home tips, local happenings around Middle Georgia, a favorite recipe, and a little encouragement.
August always feels like a month of fresh starts. While summer isn't quite ready to let go here in Georgia, many of us are settling back into routines, tackling projects we've been putting off, and looking ahead to the months to come. I hope this month's edition gives you a few helpful ideas, a reason to smile, and maybe even something new to try. So grab your favorite drink, settle in, and enjoy this month's visit to The Front Porch.
1️⃣ Around the House
Keep Your Home Cool All Summer Long
July heat in Middle Georgia can send both temperatures and power bills soaring. Fortunately, a few simple changes around the house can help you stay more comfortable while using less energy. From adjusting your thermostat to keeping your HVAC system running efficiently, these practical tips can make a big difference all summer long.

Peach Season Is Here!
One of my favorite things about summer in Middle Georgia is peach season! Whether you're picking up fresh peaches, homemade peach ice cream, or just looking for a fun afternoon drive, Lane Southern Orchards in Fort Valley is a great place to spend a little time this month.

I also love the cafeteria style restaurant at Lane Orchards and the store that's attached. It's a nice place to spend an afternoon on a hot summer day!
Stay Hydrated This Summer!
With temperatures climbing across Middle Georgia, staying hydrated is one of the easiest ways to protect your health. Drinking enough water helps regulate body temperature, maintain energy, and prevent dehydration during these hot summer months. If you're spending time outdoors, don't wait until you're thirsty to start drinking water.

The first thing that I do every morning is have a full glass of water with a pinch of sea salt in it, to kick start my hydration. You should give it a try!
4️⃣ Home Remedy Corner
Soothe Those Summer Mosquito Bites
Mosquito bites seem to be part of every Georgia summer! A cold compress, calamine lotion, or other simple remedies can help relieve the itching.

Personally, I've found tea tree oil to be helpful on mosquito bites. Since everyone's skin is different, I'd try it on a small spot first to make sure there isn't a reaction. If there is, adding a little lotion or olive oil can help counteract the tea tree oil.
5️⃣ Low Carb Corner
Loaded Cheeseburger Salad
Missing a cheeseburger but trying to keep the carbs down? This Loaded Cheeseburger Salad has all the flavors of a classic burger—seasoned ground beef, cheddar cheese, tomatoes, pickles, and a creamy burger-style dressing—without the bun. It's an easy weeknight meal that's both filling and fresh.

Since switching to a lower carb lifestyle, I'm always on the lookout for recipes that are simple, satisfying, and don't leave me feeling like I'm missing out. This is one I'll definitely be making soon.
Thinking About Selling Someday? Start Preparing Now.
Many homeowners think they need to wait until they're ready to list before doing anything to prepare. In reality, the best time to start is months, or even years, in advance. Tackling small repairs, keeping up with maintenance, and making thoughtful updates over time can make the selling process much less stressful when the day finally comes.
If you've been wondering what improvements are worth making, and which ones aren't, I'd be happy to help you prioritize them.

7️⃣ A Moment of Encouragement
One Day At A Time
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge Him and he will make your paths straight."
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NASB)
Life has a way of making us want to figure everything out at once. Whether you're making a big decision, caring for your family, or simply navigating a busy season, remember that God doesn't ask us to have all the answers, He asks us to trust Him one step at a time.
I hope this verse encourages you to slow down, breathe, and remember that you're never walking through life alone.
Thanks for stopping by The Front Porch!
I hope you found something helpful, interesting, and encouraging this month.
